Grass rules

Sub Rules:

  1. During League Games:
    • Players who are on a team roster may sub for other teams at the same level or one level higher. They may not sub for teams at a lower level than their registered team.
    • Players cannot be on more than one team roster.
  2. Non-Rostered Players:
    • Players who are not on any team roster may sub on any team, at any level, during league games.
  3. End-of-Season Tournament (Last day):
    • Only players on your final roster may participate in the tournament.
    • Please use the Roster update page to make any roster changes prior to the tournament

General Rules:

  • Games:
    • Teams will play one or two matches each night.
    • Matches are best 2 out 3 sets, first two games are to 21, win by two, third set to 15.
    • Games are capped at 23 and 17
  • Requirements:
    • There must be at least one girl on the court at all times.
    • There must be at least three players on the court at all times, or your team forfeits.
  • Rotation:
    • Teams are not required to rotate positions, only serving order.
  • Net:
    • A net touch is illegal at all times. There is no continuation.
  • Tips:
    • No open hand tips. Pokes and knuckles are legal
  • Ball Handling:
    • There are no referees, you must call your own. In the advanced division, you are allowed 2 rotations of the ball on the set, more than that is considered a double contact.
    • For the intermediate and recreation divisions doubles will not be called as long as a player from the same team contacts the ball to send it to the other side of the net. Lifts, prolonged contact, or a catch are illegal.
  • First Contact:
    • Players may double contact any first ball over (including serves) provided the ball is not held.
  • Let Serves:
    • Let Serves are legal.
  • Blocking:
    • A block is not counted as a team hit.
    • You can directional block.
  • Foot Digs:
    • Foot Digs are legal.
  • Setting Over:
    • When the ball is set into the opponents court, the setter’s shoulders must be “Squared Up” or Perpendicular to the line of flight of the ball.
    • Intent to set: Setting the ball to your teammate and the ball accidentally goes over the net (or is carried over by a gust of wind), is legal and play continues, however, the double contact rule still applies to the set
  • Side Changes:
    • Teams should switch sides of the court after every 7 points in games to 21 or more, and every 5 points for games to 15.
  • Footwear:
    • Players may not wear cleats or spikes of any kind.
    • Players may play barefoot.
